A SHORT DESCRIPTION TO VISIT SICILY

Sicily is divided from the continent by the Strait of Messina and bathed by the Ionian, Tyrrhenian and Mediterranean.

Its greatest wonders: mountains, hills, and above all the sea. The islands surrounding Sicily are the Aeolian, Egadi, Pelagie, Pantelleria and Ustica. Do not forget the suggestive volcanoes such as Etna and Stromboli.

WHAT TO SEE

Peculiarities of this territory are two suggestive volcanoes, Stromboli and Etna.
We find the protected areas of the regional parks of Etna, Madonie and Nebrodi, and the volcanic paradise of Pantelleria. We also remember the Valle del Bove, the Grotta del Gelo, the Alcantara Gorges.

The Aeolian Islands are a World Heritage Site and there are 7 islands of the archipelago: Lipari, Vulcano, Stromboli, Salina, Filicudi; Alicudi and Panarea.

The Valley of the Temples of Agrigento is another certified treasure of humanity, here is the famous Valley of the Temples.

Syracuse and the UNESCO sites are located on the south-eastern coast of Sicily where Syracuse stands with the Necropolis of Pantalica. In Syracuse and the Aeolian Islands are to be added the eight splendid late Baroque cities of the Val di Noto and the Villa Romana del Casale.

WHAT TO DO

The sea is the fundamental element.
A wide choice for those who want to relax, regenerating themselves with care. Among the best known are those of Sciacca, with the famous Stufe di S. Calogero or the Terme di Acireale. Sicily is an inexhaustible source of knowledge, history, art and culture. Do not forget the Greek temples of Selinunte and Syracuse and those of Agrigento and Imera, the Greek-Roman theater of Taormina and the cathedrals of the Norman era, especially in Palermo.

WHAT TO TASTE

Great attention to first courses. Many are the protagonists of the kitchen, from aubergines to caponata, pasta alla Norma and parmigiana. There are numerous fish dishes, from couscous to Trapani, to pasta with sardines or ‘cca muddica . As for the meat we remember the badduzze (meatballs) and in the beccafico ‘nna cipudda .
Finally, the Sicilian desserts where ricotta and almond paste are undisputed queens.
Do not forget the famous cheeses, such as Ragusano and pecorino, or tasty sausages such as Sant’Angelo salami.
